Thanks to the contributions of companies like Grupo Calvo that form part of the Spanish Network of the Global Compact, the guide identifies thirty challenges linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The aim of this set of guidelines is to serve as a road map for other companies operating in the sector in meeting the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.<\/p>\n

The agri-food industry encompasses one of the economic activities with the greatest impact on an international level. Beyond economics, however, it is a sector that directly impacts consumers\u2019 health and well-being, the labour conditions of those who work in the industry and the exploitation of natural resources.<\/p>\n

Grupo Calvo is fully aware of the potential of agri-food industry transformation. In the latter part of 2016, the company therefore implemented an industrial transformation plan with the aim of turning its production facilities into models of efficiency, flexibility and sustainability, beginning with the plant located in Carballo (A Coru\u00f1a).<\/p>\n

However, the company is focusing efforts not only on production facilities, but also on its fleet. Along these lines, Grupo Calvo recently obtained UNE 195006 \u201cResponsibly Caught Tuna\u201d certification from AENOR for its entire fleet of tuna fishing vessels. This certification demonstrates that the fishing practices of the Grupo Calvo fleet are carried out in a socially and environmentally responsible manner.<\/p>\n

The SDG Sectoral Guide: Agri-Food Sector publication is also backed by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, as well as Spain\u2019s Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
